The Story of a Tub Chair

This story is an example of what we do when we up-cycle chairs. We enjoy giving them a makeover which will give pleasure to their new owner for many years to come. This chair was spotted in the North Island in a re-cycle centre. We had never worked on a ‘tub’ chair before so thought it could be interesting to do. Our first problem was to get it into our already overloaded car. We had been traveling in the North Island of New Zealand to seek out new and unusual fabrics and to take part in a ballroom dance competition. We made the trip back home to the South Island with valuable fabric, a lot of dance gear and the chair. The three-hour ferry trip was the easiest part. Due to heavy rain and major slips the main road home was blocked. It took us 24 hours more than planned to get home. The chair sat in the workshop for a while. We had been busy with preparing our metal chairs which have sold well with just a few left.

The chair was stripped down and the legs sanded and re varnished.

We chose the dusky pink patterned fabric in order to give the chair a plush and up market look.

With care and attention to detail David recovered the chair.

This chair is my favourite chair for comfort and is now available and ready for its new home.

All of our up-cycled items have a story which we are happy to share with you.
